BRD REFLECTIONS:

Leviticus 23, 24 and Psalm 92 (NIV)

(Rosalia Rivera Mahendran, PTM – Crisis Relief Wesley, Safe@Wesley and Wesley Filipino Fellowship)

READ:

Leviticus 23, 24 and Psalm 92 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Moses follows the instruction of God to tell the Israelites about His commands.  The following verses In Leviticus 23 and 24 caught my attention. All the verses end with “I am the Lord your God”.

  1. Lev 23 22 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God.’”
  2. Lev 23 42 Live in temporary shelters for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters 43 so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’”
  3. Lev 24 v 21-22 21 Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death. 22 You are to have the same law for the foreigner and the native-born. I am the Lord your God.’”

I observed that the commandments of the Lord reflect His person and character.

  1. God cares for the poor and the foreigner. His laws make provision for the Israelites to be mindful and caring of them and this act of charity is to be observed just like the rest of the commandments.
  2. God is creative, witty and understands the tendency of the people to forget His bountiful provision in their lives and His saving act so a command is given for them to remember.
  3. He is just and fair.  His law is for all. When it comes to the death penalty for those who commit murder, it is applicable to both residents and foreigners.

APPLY:

  1. Be awed by the law of the Lord God
  2. Remember His faithful and generous provisions and saving grace in my journey of faith.
  3. Uphold justice and fairness

DO:

  1. I will continue to find creative ways to show care and concern to the poor and the foreigners in the area the Lord has placed me.
  2. I thank God for His provision and saving grace and will continue to live in dependence on Him.
  3. I will express justice and fairness in practical ways like in my family, I will have no favourite child and no favourite sibling.

PRAY:

Lord God who is Holy, I worship you, I honour you, and I adore you.

You are my Saviour and my Provider. You are my Righteous God.

May I continue to draw closer to you, delight in you and rely on your grace and mercy.

May I be an instrument of your kindness to the poor and needy.

May I be just and fair in my dealings in all of my relationships.

In Jesus Christ name I pray.  Amen.
