His Abiding Presence
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Corinthians 7:1-16 and Psalms 16 (NIV)
(Raymond Lim, from Worship & Music)
READ:
Psalm 16:1, 5 (NIV)
1Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.
5Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
OBSERVE:
As a self-employed F&B consultant since starting my own boutique consultancy in 2016, I do not have any regular salary; my income is contingent upon the consultancies I am able to secure. If you have been following the local news, you would have seen many reports about the dire straits of the local F&B scene. As 2025 winds down, I find myself inevitably worrying about how I can survive the next year as I do not have any confirmed clients yet. I believe my predicament is something that many of us working adults in Wesley can relate to, whether as salaried employees or self-employed individuals like myself. In times of economic uncertainty and an AI-led technological revolution in workplaces, we all worry about our lot.
APPLY:
Every morning, I take what I call a “gratitude walk,” whereby after my jog, I take a slow walk home and talk to God during my quiet time. I make it a point to look back at the many years since I entered the workforce as a waiter and started my family, and marvel at how God has time and time again preserved, protected, and provided (the 3 Ps) for me and my household; literally counting my blessings. And because of how He has shown Himself to be faithful all these years, I can be sure of His abiding presence last year, this year, and in the year to come. I will then end my walk with thanksgiving and assurance that God is working things out for me even when I may not see it. I am grateful that I have the privilege to come and seek His refuge every morning and leave my worries at the foot of His throne.
DO:
I want to continue to serve my Father, my King, and my God faithfully. I know that service in Church does not translate into material blessings, and we should never take such a transactional view of God. My service to His Kingdom is an expression of my love for Him, and I will continue to love Him and serve Him all the more even when the going gets tough.
PRAY:
Abba Father, I am so thankful that I have You, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, on my side. Help me not to worry but to trust that You are working things out and that You will open a new door to see me through next year. You alone are the giver and provider of all good things in my life. I want to fix my eyes upon You and not the worries. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
