Seeing God’s Goodness
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Thessalonians 2:14-20 and Psalm 107:33-43 (NIV)
(Kathleen Jong from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 107:33-43 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Our almighty God can transform even the most difficult circumstances (vv. 33–35). He is also compassionate and provides for those in need (vv. 36–41): He feeds the hungry (v. 36), blesses His people (v. 38), protects the oppressed (v. 39), and rescues the poor (v. 41). The righteous recognize His hand at work (v. 42), while the wicked are forsaken (vv. 33–34), abandoned (v. 40), and silenced (v. 43).
APPLY:
This passage reminds me that my circumstances do not define what God can do. My “desert” season was nine years of hopelessness and tears after my daughter decided not to return to Singapore following her overseas graduation. I was broken-hearted; it felt like a long walk through the valley of sorrow, and at times I could not see God’s hand.
Yet the Lord, who makes streams flow in dry places, met me in that wilderness. In His time, He lifted me up and transformed my circumstances. The Lord has drawn my daughter’s once-distant heart back to me with deeper love. She is even planning to return.
Through the darkest nights of my soul, I learned to hold on to Him and trust His timing, knowing that God can transform and restore what seems hopeless and lost.
DO:
I will take this verse to heart and remember God’s faithfulness to those who seek and love Him. V43: “Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord.”
I look forward to Alabaster Hour, where I can pause and be still before God—to remember His faithful, steadfast love amid life’s changing circumstances.
A powerful sermon quote reminds me: “Life in the Spirit is having a heightened reality of God.” I want to live each day with a deeper awareness of God’s presence in every circumstance.
PRAY:
Abba Father, do not let today’s circumstances become the measure of Your goodness to me.
In the midst of difficult circumstances, help me to keep my faith, trust You, love You, persevere, and remember that You will never abandon me. Teach me to live righteously and to be pleasing in Your sight.
Lord, I thank You for Your unfailing love. Help me hold on to Your promise that I will never be forsaken.
Help me to be wise, to seek You, and to always remember that You are my God. In the name of Jesus, amen.
