Saved By Grace, Shaped For Good Works

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Ephesians 2 and Psalm 2:1-6 (NIV)

(Ruth Tan from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Ephesians 2:8 — 22 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Salvation is God’s gift. We are saved solely by His grace through faith—not by our own efforts, achievements, or good works. As God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, we are called to carry out the good works He prepared for us long ago. Once distant from God, we have now been brought near through the blood of Christ—through His death and resurrection. With Christ as our cornerstone, we are being built into a holy temple where the Holy Spirit dwells within each believer.

APPLY:

Although I was born into a Christian family—third-generation Methodist, raised in a Methodist school, faithfully attending Sunday School and Youth Fellowship—none of that made me a true believer. I was still spiritually dead in my sin. I needed God’s grace, and I had to personally believe that His salvation was a gift meant for me.

Even now, though I am made new in Christ, I must be careful not to treat His grace casually or become an entitled Christian. I must constantly ask myself: Are there areas where I am still trying to earn God’s approval instead of resting in His grace? How does knowing I am God’s workmanship shape the way I view myself? Am I walking in the “good works” God has already prepared for me? Is there a “wall” in my life – unforgiveness, hurt, pride – that God wants to break down? What steps can I take to grow and remain united with Christ Jesus? And do I see myself as a “living stone” in the spiritual house God is building?

DO:

  • Be still before the Lord each morning—no long requests, just quiet time in His presence.
  • Ask the Lord to show me one good work He has prepared for me and obey by blessing someone each day.
  • Forgive myself and others when mistakes happen. Be non- judgemental, remembering we are all God’s work in progress.
  • Continue studying God’s Word, growing deeper, and walking the talk.
  • Give thanks to God daily for His grace, regardless of circumstances.
  • Reflect, journal, and surrender the day to the Lord each evening.

PRAY:

Dear Father God,
Teach me to live each day with intention. Help me choose what nurtures my soul and let go of what distracts me. Guide me into a healthy rhythm of rest, prayer, work, and joy—a rhythm that keeps me close to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
