Faith In Silence
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Song of Songs 7:10-13, 8: 1-4 and Psalm 10 (NIV)
(Rebecca Chong from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
“Why Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1)
“Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.” (Song of Songs 8:4)
OBSERVE:
What struck me was the deep longing expressed in both passages, but in very different tones. In Song of Songs, the woman yearns for closeness, for intimacy. She longs for her beloved with such tenderness. It’s full of anticipation, of love that’s near but not yet fully experienced. However, in Psalm 10, the longing feels heavier. The psalmist longs for God’s justice, feeling abandoned and questioning why God seems distant in suffering.
APPLY:
There are seasons in my walk with God when I feel His presence so clearly, like His love is wrapped around me and everything is steady. But then there are also times when I find myself wondering, like the psalmist, “Where are You, Lord?” I’m learning that it’s okay to bring questions to God. I don’t have to have it all figured out. I can be honest, even when it’s messy. These verses remind me that God doesn’t disappear in the silence. Even when I cannot feel Him, He is still working, still moving and still present. His timing is always right, whether it’s in love, healing or justice.
DO:
I’m willing to wait as long as I need to, to be honest with God. No rushing to fix things or explain myself. I trust that the waiting isn’t for nothing.
PRAY:
Lord, You see my heart – the longing, the questions, the weariness. Teach me to wait on You with faith. Draw near in the silence and fill me with the assurance of Your love and timing.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
