Safe In God’s Presence
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Genesis 39:11-23 and Psalm 105:1-7 (NIV)
(Judy Tan from Worship & Music Ministry)
READ:
Genesis 39:11-23 and Psalm 105:1-7 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In Gen 39:11-23, I observed two different responses to the same situation.
Joseph fled from the evil act of temptation by his master’s wife. He focused on what the Lord has called him to do. Joseph was clear in his mind and was resolute to not sin against God (v9). He trusted God fully.
On the other hand, his master’s response to the same situation was focused on his wife’s lies and accusation of Joseph. His full trust was in his wife, causing him to send Joseph, the victim to prison.
I saw God’s presence with Joseph wherever he was sent. God not only preserved him but also protected and granted him favour. Joseph did not fight man.
APPLY:
Today’s reading of Gen 39:11-23 reminds me of my need to make clear choices to honour God, trusting that He will give me the strength and grace through my situations. I am mindful that my response could be a good or bad Christian testimony to those around me.
Wherever God puts me, the reality is that the evil one does lurk around. I need God’s strength to hold onto His faithfulness, protection and promises to help me focus on God’s call for me.
Joseph’s plight reminded me of a dark season at my workplace when I had to wrestle daily, seeing schemes of organisational changes which were detrimental to the wellbeing of many including myself. I was in the midst of a critical project, and leaving seemed to be the easiest way out, but God placed upon my heart to complete the project lest I may be a bad testimony of a Christian jumping ship. I drew strength from God daily. His presence guarded my soul and kept me focussed on His call. The project was then completed in good time. God fought my battles and set me free. Praise the Lord, His name be glorified!
DO:
I need God’s spirit to sanctify me daily to help me:
* live by His spirit to respond in ways pleasing to Him.
* honour Him in my interactions with family, friends and the body of Christ.
* be sensitive to the schemes of the evil one and trust God in His promises.
* be in His presence to focus on the things our Lord has called me to.
PRAY:
Lord Jesus, know my heart. When I go astray, lead me back to You, hasten my spirit to hear You. Lord, teach me to keep in step with You, to stand firm even when storms come my way. Grant me faith and obedience to trust You in Your promises, even when I do not see them, yet. This is my humble prayer, Lord Jesus, I pray.
