Disorder In Church

BRD REFLECTION 2026

1 Corinthians 5 and Psalm 13 (NIV)

(Leong Wing Kong. from Worship & Music)

READ:

For this reflection, I focused on 1 Corinthians 5:6-8 and Psalm 13:5-6.

OBSERVE:

In 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, Paul was writing to those in the Corinthian church who wanted to ignore the problem of sexual immorality.

In Psalm 13:5-6, we see that David, despite his distress and despair, was able, through prayer, to affirm hope and trust in God.

APPLY:

In 1 Corinthians 5:6, when I read, “Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?”, I am reminded of how a drop of ink will eventually stain a larger part of a shirt if it is not contained. In the context of the church, if members’ sins are left unchecked and uncorrected, they can corrupt the rest of the congregation.

God, who is holy and righteous, despises all forms of sin. A church that tolerates its members’ sins will go down a slippery slope, as acts of immorality could corrupt the entire church if left unattended. By tolerating sin, it also sends a confusing signal that can adversely affect the entire church.

DO:

I will continue to spend time seeking God and reading the Bible daily so that I can strengthen and build my intimate relationship with Him. I will not only know His word but will also strive to apply it in my daily life.

I will continue to learn to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and rely on His power to purify my heart. This is because even a small sin, if ignored, can slowly corrupt my heart.

If I come across a fellow believer who is struggling with sin, I will approach them gently and compassionately, without judgement. I will learn to listen, and in love, encourage my fellow believer to repent, grow, and transform.

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your only Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice to remove our sins. Lord, search my heart as You grant me the strength, obedience, and discipline to remain faithful and steadfast in my daily walk with You, so that I will not submit to any worldly temptations. Lord, please show Your lovingkindness to those who have sinned, as You soften their hearts and guide them to repentance and restoration. I pray all these in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
