The Way, The Word, The Shield
BRD REFLECTIONS
Genesis 24; Psalm 18:30-50 (NIV)

READ:
Psalm 18:30-50 (NIV)
As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.
OBSERVE:
God’s way is perfect but it does not mean there will be no challenges ahead. My hope is in Him. His Word is flawless but it does not mean that I will understand everything. My trust is in Him. He is my shield but only if I hide behind the Cross. My security is in Him.
APPLY:
2022 has been a challenging year, coming out of the pandemic and adjusting to the new normal. The transition is still in progress. The economy has also been turbulent impacting many businesses and employment which in turn has affected many families. The war in Europe, the testing of missiles by North Korea, the South China Sea tensions and the worsening climate conditions all point to an uncertain 2023.
Still, entering the new year brings much hopeful anticipation. There are new opportunities and challenges in the future. What are the right decisions and choices for the path ahead? I am reminded that His way is perfect! I need not fear for the path I walk is directed by my God who will guide me.
So much of what I have learned in my discipleship journey is that there is only one constant – and it’s not just change, it’s God. He’s found in His Word, His living Word, which is flawless. There is no error, no fault. Just like His path, His word is perfect. Reading and meditating on His Word brings light into my heart revealing my heart’s deceitfulness. His Word illumines my mind to see clearly the decisions I need to make for His glory. Most of all, reading His Word brings me joy for His love is revealed in His Word.
Having seen His hand in my life, I know in this new year He continues to lead and guide me. But only if I choose to place Him in the centre of my life. In the storms of life, He will be my shield. Truly, I can take refuge in Him and trust that He is still sovereign in the midst of life’s storms and uncertainties.
DO:
Spending time reading His Word, meditating on His Word, being still in His presence and praying to Him: these need to be the primary activity in my life and at the centre of all I do. Keeping my eyes on my Lord and Saviour and not depending on my circumstances or my feelings allows His presence to guide me on His path, teach me from His Word and assure me of His protection. He is my centre and focus for 2023.
Will He be yours?
PRAY:
Dearest Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have taken You for granted. For the many times I have done things that have not honoured or pleased You, please forgive me. Thank You Father, for Jesus who has paid the price for my sins and that I can come to You as my Abba Father through Him. I ask that Your grace and mercy guide me in 2023 so that Your Name is glorified in my life. In the precious Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
