Exuberance In The Valley
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 17:14-23 and Psalms 65:9-13 (NIV)
(Philip Yuen, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
I empathise with the anguish of the father of the epileptic child in Matthew 17:15, when he cried out, “Lord, have mercy on my son,” and I rejoice when Jesus responded, “Bring the boy here to me.”
The immense authority and power of our Almighty are demonstrated when Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, healing him from that moment.
Scripture makes it clear in Matthew 17:20 when Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you.”
OBSERVE:
As I reflect on these two portions of Scripture, I notice the thread of faith highlighted in them. I learn of God’s omnipotence and splendour beyond human comprehension when I place my trust in Jesus by faith.
Psalm 65:9 assures me, “You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.” Indeed, in spite of my sins, it is only through His grace and mercy that our Almighty restores me when I repent and seek to obey Him.
APPLY:
When I find myself in deep valleys, I am often encouraged by the fact that I have a faithful God who loves and cares for me. Therefore, I frequently “shout for joy and sing” (Psalm 65:13b).
DO:
I praise the Lord for opportunities to share God’s love, to tell of His amazing salvation, and to declare His power over sin. Only Jesus, and no one else, is worthy of my praise!
PRAY:
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for Your faithfulness and awesome power in the deep valleys of my trials. It is beyond human expectation and understanding that You love a sinner such as me. Amen!
