Death Of Sin And Evil, Birth Of New Life
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Exodus 11, 12 and Psalm 60 (NIV)
( Cecilia Chow, CIC Facilitator)
READ:
Exodus 11:3 “the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians”.
Exodus 11:5 “every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die”.
Exodus 12:12-13 “I (the Lord) will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 12:17 “And you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread…from the fourteenth day of the month…until the twenty-first day of the month”
In Psalm 60:3-6 “You have made your people see hard things…You have set a banner for those who fear you…God has spoken in His holiness”
OBSERVE:
As I read these Scriptures, I am reminded that God is a God of love. He is also a just and holy God who cannot stand evil. Because of His holiness, the good and the bad are distinctly marked by God’s judgment.
In the midst of threat, God extended protection over His people: as He passed over Egypt, He spared the Israelites , but struck down the Egyptians.
God provided for His people, from instructing them how the lamb was to be cooked, to having them make and take unleavened bread in consideration of the hasty circumstances of how they were to leave Egypt.
After 430 years in Egypt, with the latter years lived under great oppression, the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt began with the sacrificial lamb’s blood put on the door posts, symbolising a renewal of life from our Lord.
APPLY:
I reflect upon the Israelites’ journey out of Egypt, and think about my personal sanctification journey. I see myself leaving behind various sins as I pass through different stages of my life. Some sins are obvious to me, whilst some I am still unaware of. In everything, I need to trust that the Lord’s ways are not my ways, and that He loves me and wishes for me to have life anew in Him.
DO:
As I continue to grow spiritually, I ask for the Spirit’s help to
- Always be prepared and make haste to turn away from sin and evil.
- Accept and trust in God’s protection and provision.
- Celebrate new life from God.
PRAY:
Father God, in my journey towards Christlikeness, help me to be constantly reminded of what is good and what is evil in your eyes. Soften my heart during times when it gets hardened and build me up to trust and obey you when the road ahead gets challenging or difficult.
In moments when I get too caught up with myself and cannot see or understand your ways, help me to just have faith that you willbe my banner of protection and deliverance. I pray and ask In Jesus’ name, Amen.
