Do What Is Right

BRD REFLECTION 2026

2 Corinthians 8:16-24 and Psalm 35:11-18 (NIV)

(Patrick Chua,  Pastoral Team)

READ:

The verses for reflection are 2 Corinthians 8:20-21 “We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man.”

OBSERVE:

Apostle Paul informed the church in Corinth that he was sending Titus – a partner and co-worker in ministry – to collect gifts to the affected churches. Paul recommended Titus for several reasons:

  1. The Corinthians were familiar with him (2 Cor 7:6-7) “But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him. He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever.”
  2. He was enthusiastic about the task and had strong conviction about the importance of the collection (v.17).

For accountability, Paul arranged for some brothers – representatives of the churches – to accompany Titus for the collection (v. 23). These arrangements were made to avoid criticism regarding the administration of the collection and to ensure that everything was done rightly, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of people (v. 24).

Titus and the others were recommended because they were trustworthy.  Good governance and strong accountability protect the church from misunderstanding, suspicion and conflict.

APPLY:

Following the example of Titus, I will strive to build relationships and trust with partners and co-workers in ministry, remaining enthusiastic and holding strong convictions regarding the responsibilities assigned to us. I must also be trustworthy and maintain confidence in people’s potential.

DO:

I will seek to do what is right – not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of people – by practicing good governance and strong accountability.

PRAY:

Lord, strengthen me to keep doing what is right before You and before others, even when it is difficult or unnoticed. When I fail, give me the humility to repent and begin again. Keep me rooted in Your will, that my actions may reflect truth and love. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
