Who Is Jesus To Me?
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 16:13-20 and Psalm 63 (NIV)
(Saw Seang Mei, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
In Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus asked His disciples who the people thought He was. They replied that some thought He was John the Baptist; others said that He was Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. When He asked them further who they thought He was, Peter acknowledged Him as the Messiah and the Son of the living God.
OBSERVE:
This passage encourages me to reflect on the most fundamental and important question in my life: Who is Jesus to me? As I embrace this vital truth—that He is the “Son of the Living God”—I am filled with awe and wonder.
Jesus’ simple yet profound question demands my response. If I acknowledge Him as the Son of God, then He should be above all else in my life.
APPLY:
I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that God created me, the universe, the whole earth, and every living thing. As such, I should worship Him as my Savior, Messiah, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. I should hunger to know Him more. As the psalmist prayed in Psalm 63:1, “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” God is worthy, and I desire to place Him above all else: “because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me” (Psalm 63:7-8).
DO:
As I appreciate the saving grace of Jesus, His mighty works, and His everlasting love and faithfulness, I desire to know Him more and to submit in obedience. As I pray for God to guide me in His ways, I ask for humility to love God and to love others, to turn to Him, and to turn away from sin. Jesus, as my Messiah, deserves much more from me, and I want to devote more of my time to worshipping and serving Him. As I commit to encouraging others to follow Jesus, I would like to keep my eyes focused on Him because He is worthy.
PRAY:
Dear God,
Thank you for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. I believe in Jesus, the Son of the Living God, and I would like to express my belief by living a life worthy in my Saviour’s sight. Please fill me with the Holy Spirit so that I may speak, act, and love others in every sphere of my life. Remind me every day of Your abounding glory, love, and mercy.
In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, Amen.
