Never Too Old To Serve

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Joshua 14:1-15 and Psalm 15 (NIV)

(Vincent Hong, Mandarin Ministry Chairperson)

READ:

These three verses caught my attention as I read Joshua 14:1-15.(NIV)

Joshua 14 (NIV)

10 “Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!

11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.

12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”

OBSERVE:

Caleb was now 85 years old after spending 45 years in the wilderness, but his faith in the Lord remained strong and his heart to serve the Lord stood firm. He even claimed that he was as strong as the day Moses sent him and the other 11 spies to spy out the land of Canaan 45 years ago, and he was ready to go into battle if God called him to. Caleb knew that he could  capture any mountain and conquer giants if he followed the God of Israel wholeheartedly.

APPLY:

There are no age restrictions in serving God. I must not let age be a determinant of my ability or capacity to serve Him. As long as I keep my desire and willingness to serve Him, I can do so regardless of my age.

DO:

I must not use age as an excuse for not serving the Lord or make me feel disqualified from serving. I am 41 years old and pray that God will grant me another 45 years to serve Him. I need to be willing and open like Caleb who carried on working for the Lord despite being 85 years old. God can use people of any age to make a difference for Him.

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your word, for giving me this passage to reflect on and remind myself that I must never lose heart in serving You. I pray You will reveal Your will to me that I may live according to  it, and that You will continue to use me to glorify Your name on earth as I learn to age gracefully. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
