Standing Firm On His Word
BRD REFLECTIONS
Genesis 15; Psalm 12 (NIV)
(Liana Seah, Chairperson, BeTween Ministry)
READ:
Genesis 15; Psalm 12 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Genesis 15:1-5. Abraham lamented to God that they could not conceive a child, and God promised Abraham that their heir would be his flesh and blood.
Psalm 12:1-2. Help Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Psalm 12:6. And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.
APPLY:
I can relate to Abraham and Sarah when they took matters into their own hands to let Hagar bear Abraham a son.
At times, when I pray for something to happen but God remains silent, I sometimes count on my own thoughts and strength.
The world is telling me that it is important to be happy and I should do what it takes to gain happiness. The world is telling me that I need to count on my own strength to succeed, to be in a position of power and to have the financial means to buy pleasures.
It is ironic that in the present time, we have access to so much information but find it more and more challenging to discern what truth is. I need to fix my eyes on Jesus as He is the only way, the truth and the life. I need to recognise evil’s lying tongue and deception. God will always find the way to make His purpose come to pass as He is a sovereign God. But I will bear the consequences of my choices and actions, just like Abraham and Sarah struggled when they decided to act on their own will and wisdom.
DO:
- Be diligent in reading God’s word so we can recognize truths from lies.
- Cling to God’s promise to protect us from the wicked and not rely on our strength.
- Have more frequent conversations with God.
PRAY:
Dear Lord,
Keep me humble, o Lord. Help me to trust in Your perfect plan. Help me to recognise lies and not be swayed by them. Help me to keep my eyes focussed on You.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
