The Weary Traveller
BRD REFLECTION 2025
(David Foo, SWR Committee Member)
READ:
Isaiah 40:28-31 – God never grows tired, and He renews the strength of those who wait on Him.
Psalm 120:1 – “I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.”
OBSERVE:
God speaks through Isaiah to a weary and displaced people, reminding them that the everlasting Creator never tires. He lifts up those who trust in Him, enabling them to run without growing weary. God assures the Psalmist in Psalm 120, where we see a pilgrim’s cry for help in a hostile environment. Yet he is confident that God will hear and respond.
In both passages, we observe that God meets us in our seasons of exhaustion and trouble.
APPLY:
Life can feel like a long, uphill road — heavy with burdens, trials, and spiritual fatigue. Isaiah reminds me that my strength is limited, but God’s is infinite. Psalm 120 reassures me that when I cry out, He not only hears but He answers. I don’t have to wait until I’m completely worn out before I come to Him; I can turn to Him daily, trusting that He will carry me through. His renewal is not just physical — it is peace for my mind and courage for my heart.
DO:
Today, when I feel drained or under pressure, I will pause, instead of pushing through on my own. I will pray, asking for strength and sensitivity to His still small voice for guidance. I will prayerfully write down each specific situation where I feel weary and bring it before Him, trusting His promises to renew me.
PRAY:
Lord, You are the everlasting God who never grows tired or weary. Forgive me when I rely on my own strength instead of Yours. Today, I lay down my weariness and distress at Your feet. Lift me up with Your power so that I may run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. Thank You that You hear and answer when I call. Amen.
