Stay True To God’s Word

BRD REFLECTIONS

Revelation 1 and Psalm 119:1-32 (NIV)

(Ang Yee Kwan, MM Sub-Ministry, Communications Leader)

READ:

Psalm 119:1-32 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 119 is the longest psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. It may have been written by Ezra after the temple was rebuilt (Ezra 6:14-15) as a repetitive meditation on the beauty of God’s Word and how it helps us to stay pure and grow in faith.

Psalm 119 has 22 carefully constructed sections, each corresponding to a different letter in the Hebrew alphabet and each verse beginning with the letter of its section. In almost every verse, the Word of God is mentioned. Psalm 119 affirms not only the character of Scripture, but it affirms that God’s Word reflects the very character of God Himself.

APPLY:

The world today is full of chaos and sin. Without God’s Word to guide us, we will wander aimlessly through life and risk missing the real destination. The Word of God is sufficient to make us wise, train us in righteousness, and equip us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:15–17). The Bible is a reflection of God’s nature, and from it we learn that we can trust His character and His plan and purposes for mankind, even when those plans include affliction and persecution.

DO:

God’s Word is true and wonderful. I am to stay true to God and His Word no matter how bad the world becomes. Obedience to God is the only way to achieve real happiness.

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your wonderful Word and pray that we read your Word daily and obey your commands. We seek the Holy Spirit to strengthen us so that we may live our lives according to your will. I ask all this in your precious son, Jesus’ name, Amen.
