I Will Say A Divine “Yes I Do!”
BRD REFLECTIONS
Romans 8:1-17; Psalm 133 and 134 (NIV)
(Angelyn Peh, Associate Lay Leader, Mandarin Ministry)
Read:
Romans 8:1-17; Psalm 133 and 134 (NIV)
Observe:
Romans 8:6b – “….. the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
Romans 8:11 – “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
Romans 8:13b — “….. if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
Romans 8:14 – “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
Apply:
As I was meditating upon this passage, I realised that the word “spirit” appeared around 17 times, and the word “flesh” appeared around 12 times within the 17 verses.
Through these verses, I started to see that life is shining like a ruby gemstone. I was also encouraged by the confirmation that God’s children are those who are led by the Spirit. This led to the importance of examen on my spiritual life and my walk with Christ.
Galatians is a book of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:25 says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Truly the LORD grant us the freedom to choose our way of life, whether to listen to our flesh or follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Like what Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 7:15, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” I am constantly troubled by having to make the right decisions. Therefore, I prayed to the LORD to let me understand how to live by the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit.
I am aware that how we live out our lives depends upon where we set our mind, as well as what we fill our mind with. I am no different to many others; I am constantly exposed to the noisy world and the complexity of values around us. They actually weaken our essential mindset of always following the Holy Spirit and in all circumstances. I am not trying to say that we need to isolate ourselves from our cultures and from the pre-believers, nor are we to avoid friendships with them. Jesus didn’t. It is essential for us to learn how to remain “RIGHT-SIDE UP” in a world that is “UPSIDE-DOWN”.
Do:
Jesus constantly sought HIS Father GOD for everything HE did!
In John 5:19, Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”
Therefore, I want to say a Divine “YES I DO” to the Holy Spirit, for the LORD has promised that in Christ, I will have life and peace.
I will surrender and lay down my arms to be led by Holy Spirit, getting used to hearing HIS voice and recognising HIS guidance.
I want to be a true disciple in the eyes of Jesus, be authentic in the marketplace, steadfast in HIS word, live with integrity, and with my mind firmly fixed on Christ.
Pray:
Father, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit in my life. Please grant me a discerning heart and open my ears to listen to your whispering voice. Grant me wisdom to understand how to walk by the Spirit, hear the Spirit and live in the power of the Spirit. Guide me so that I will not miss out on any of the wonderful portion of my inheritance in this life. Thank you for testifying within me that you love me so much and call me your child. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
