Using Our Spiritual Gifts To Glorify God

LENT 2022 | DAY 31

Matthew 25:1-30 (NIV)

(Roger Chan, Chairperson, Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Matthew 25:1-30 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In the Parable of the Bags of Gold (Matthew 25:14-30), three servants were entrusted with their master’s wealth according to their abilities. Two of the servants managed to grow their master’s wealth while the remaining servant just hid his master’s money underground.

From the master’s perspective, the former two servants had been faithful and could be entrusted with more responsibilities. However, he had a dim view of the latter servant. The servant was unwilling to take risks and grow the master’s estate. The servant’s unfaithfulness to carry on the master’s work cost him dearly.

APPLY:

Spiritually, this parable is a reflection on our own attitude towards Lord Jesus Christ – Are we faithful to the ministry of Jesus Christ while we wait for His return? Are we using our spiritual gifts and talents to glorify God’s Kingdom, to serve the weak, the poor and the lost, and to preach the good news to the world? Will we be like the favoured servants who waited for the return of their master, and faithfully continued their master’s work? Or are we like the latter servant, in our inaction or unwillingness to use our gifts and talents for His Kingdom? Will our unfaithfulness to do His work (will) cost us just as it did for the servant?

DO:

It is my belief that God has blessed each of us with spiritual gifts (Romans 12:6-8, 1 Peter 4:10-11, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11). With these gifts, we are equipped to do His work and bring glory to the Kingdom of God. One can consider joining our Church’s SHAPE course to have a sense of what our gifts may be. With the gifts that God has blessed me with, I will commit them to the Lord and use them faithfully so that His Name is glorified.

PRAY:

Dear God, thank you for being my Lord and Saviour. Thank you for your love, that you sent your only Son to suffer and die on the cross for my sins. I am humbled for I am so undeserving of this great love. I am thankful for this opportunity to confess my sins to you, and to have your forgiveness. I acknowledge that I am a new creation in you, the old has gone and the new has come. Please help me see what my spiritual gifts are, and help me use them for the glory of your Kingdom. Allow me to commit myself to you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
