OBSERVE:
- The glory of the Lord shines upon Jesus while He is praying. Jesus was transfigured before the three disciples and his face shone like the sun and His garment became white as light. Moses and Elijah also appeared before them and they talked to Jesus. In this scene, God revealed Jesus who came as a man but He is more than just a man.
- The three disciples were overawed by the scene. Peter suggested building three tabernacles, one each for Jesus, Moses and Elijah to enjoy the ah-ha moment. Whilst Peter was speaking, God spoke out of the cloud and said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!” The three disciples became terrified and fell face down. In this scene, God is affirming Jesus’ true identity as the Son of God before them.
- Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid”. When Jesus said this to the three disciples, He encouraged them to go forth with conviction and courage after knowing His true identity.
APPLY:
Who is Jesus to me? What is His position in my life? Do I live my life in honour and reverence to Him? Is He a teacher or a prophet? Or is He just someone who hears and answers my prayers when I am faced with life’s challenges? I need to be like the three disciples, humbled and terrified but convicted that Jesus is the Son of God and He is above all things. I can go forth to serve Him with confidence and courage, putting my faith and trust in Him.
DO:
As Easter is approaching, I want to remember God’s greatest sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus, so that I may live my life to be thankful, obedient and trusting in Him.
PRAY:
Dear Lord, thank you for the life of Jesus and help me to keep my focus on Jesus and let Him be the centre of my life. Amen.
