Acknowledge God When You Do Well In Life

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Genesis 41:53-57 and Psalm 106:40-48 (NIV)

(Stanley Loh from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Genesis 41:53-57 and Psalm 106:40-4 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Events that preceded Genesis 41:53 told us about Joseph, his dreams and those from others; and the interpretation of these dreams. Verse 53 tells of the seven years of abundance in Egypt that ended and the seven years of famine that began, just as Joseph had said.

Everything that God had revealed to Joseph about Pharaoh’s dream came to pass exactly as it was foretold; not five or six or eight or nine years. When the people cried to Pharaoh for food, he directed them to Joseph. Pharaoh could have demonstrated leadership and directed the relief programme, but he did not. He acknowledged Joseph as the architect. He acknowledged God’s hand behind Joseph’s work.

In Psalm 106, the Israelites were given into the hands of their enemies and were oppressed. Even though God delivered them, they returned to their sinning ways. Yet God never left them. His covenantal love would cause the enemies to show mercy.

APPLY:

When God blesses people with plenty, do they think that it will go on forever? When God elevates people into positions of influence and control in the workplace, do they realise they have been placed there for a purpose? And when people are able to turn things for the better, do they acknowledge that it was God behind the outcome?

In the recent past I had a Christian client who remarked that I was different from my predecessors within my company and from competitors that served them before us. The manner in which I conducted business dealings and decisions that I made were rather atypical with how others had done to her in the past. Although still putting up a tough negotiation, there was strong upholding of morals and ethics. She ended that conversation with these words that remained etched in me for a long time. “Your Christian principles were obvious; front and centre and in  almost everything you do”.

I was glad to have been a “Joseph” and glorified the Lord. I was glad not to have stumbled her. But I wonder if there were occasions when I might have done the opposite.

DO:

I want to be even in my actions and behaviour and be a living testimony to others of my faith.

I want to be vulnerable and reach out to God to rescue me from my enemies should I drift away.

PRAY:

Dear Lord, hide me behind the cross so that others will know that it is You who enabled me in everything I say and do. And for all that I gain, I give thanks for your blessings upon me and others around me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
