Return To God No Matter What

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Genesis 41:14-24 and Psalm 106:1-12 (NIV)

(Yang Tuck Meng from Worship and Music Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 106:1-12 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 106 begins with so much promise — proclamation of God’s enduring goodness. It then moves to a humble, personal plea: “remember me.” It quickly becomes an honest confession. Israel had just been miraculously freed from slavery, had seen the waters parted, and yet almost immediately forgot and rebelled. The pattern is clear: great deliverance, quick forgetfulness, and then a greater display of God’s faithfulness. He does not save them because they are faithful, but for His name’s sake.

APPLY:

Even though written thousands of years ago, I find the Psalms so relevant to my life.

Like this Psalm, my walk began with praise — a true mountain top experience when I first found God and put my trust in Him. He was the answer to all my troubles and led me out of darkness.

Yet like the Israelites, I have descended into the valley. Despite His goodness, I have on many occasions chosen my own path, my own choices, my own way of life, instead of letting God lead. It’s only when I realize I have made a tragically foolish mistake, that I ran back in shame and contrition.

Sometimes I wonder if God would tire of me ‘bouncing’ about. This Psalm assures me He does not. When I am lacking in faith, my God remains faithful, holding me and ready to pull me back when I call. In my disobedience, He patiently waits to forgive a contrite heart. In hopelessness, He draws me close to give a peace only He can give.

DO:

This week, when I feel the pull toward my own way, I will pause and remember one specific deliverance — a time God led me out of darkness. I will not let forgetfulness become rebellion. When I fail, instead of hiding in shame, I will turn quickly, with a humble spirit, and call on Him, trusting His patience over my inconsistency.

PRAY:

Father, thank You for Your goodness that endures forever. Forgive me for how quickly I forget Your deliverance and choose my own way. Thank You that You do not grow tired of me, that You remain faithful when I am not, and that You save me for Your name’s sake. Thank You for loving me enough to give Your Son, Jesus Christ, as the everlasting assurance of Your love. I have done nothing to deserve it — I simply received Your life-giving gift today. Remember me, Lord, with Your favor. Amen.
