When Faced With Temptation
BRD REFLECTION 2026
(Lyn Tan from Worship & Music Ministry)
READ:
Matthew 4:1-10 recounts Satan’s attempts to sway Jesus with invitations to satisfy his physical hunger, to gain worldly power and riches, and to test God.
OBSERVE:
I observe the following in Matthew 4:1-10:
As the devil tempts Him, Jesus responds each time with, “It is written….” Knowing and using Scripture is a powerful defence against temptation.
Jesus fasted forty days and nights to prepare Himself for, and to focus on, God’s will for Him.
Satan twists Scripture and uses the lure of worldly power and riches to sway Jesus. Recognising these tactics helps us stay vigilant against similar deceptions in our own lives.
APPLY:
Just as Jesus relied on God’s Word, I too can find strength and guidance in the Bible to overcome my trials.
Just as Jesus prepared Himself by fasting forty days and nights, I too can use the time of fasting to better hear God’s voice and remind myself of my dependence on Him.
Just as Jesus was aware of Satan’s lies, I too must be aware of the enemy’s schemes and be rooted in God’s truth.
Just as Jesus declares, “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only,” I too must not allow worldly distractions to take my focus away from God.
DO:
· To know Scripture well and store it in my heart
· To practise fasting as a means to align my will with God’s will
· To stay rooted in God’s truth and stand firm in faith
· To keep my eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of my faith
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that Your Holy Word is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. Plant Your words deep in my heart that I may use them to defend myself against any temptation or trial. May I persevere to be obedient and devoted to You, trusting that You have plans to give me hope and a future. Amen.
