Living A Life Of Gratitude To God
BRD REFLECTION 2025
1 Chronicles 18, 19 and Psalm 75 (NIV)

READ:
1 Chronicles 18, 19 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
God favoured David and this was evident by the military victories against the enemies. David recognised the successes he achieved was not due to his own efforts but blessings from God and His power at work. In gratitude and in dependence on the sovereign God, David stayed faithful, consistently acted justly and was righteous in his ways.
David returned an act of kindness and showed compassion to the new king of Ammonites. King Hannu however received poor advice from his team and shamed David’s envoys instead. David extended kindness to his own men after they were humiliated. Eventually, David triumphed over his enemies.
APPLY:
The phrase “the Lord gave David victory everywhere he went” is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 18:6 & 13. When I experience success or see God at work in my life, it is essential to give glory to God and not attribute it to my own efforts. However, even on occasions where I struggle to overcome or do well, I must release disappointments to His Spirit to teach me and rely on the Holy Spirit’s empowerment to fight the good fight of faith.
Growing in Christ means embracing His heart of compassion for others. With God’s strength, it is possible to show kindness to enemies, people I do not get along with, to colleagues and family.
There is wisdom in choosing the right companions who are discerning, love the Lord and give godly advice. May God grant me and my circle of companions a deeper walk with Him so we can give godly encouragement to one another.
DO:
Take time for personal reflection and see God’s goodness in my life. Give thanks for situations that did not or have not worked well, trusting in His ways.
Is there someone I can show kindness to this week?
PRAY:
Dear God, I can depend on my own abilities, resources and experiences to get through ordinary and challenging times. Help me to see You are a God of all seasons in my life and not just the good times. Teach me to be constantly grateful, dependent on You and live a life of daily surrender.
As I interact with people around me, use me to be a vessel of Your compassion and kindness. Lead me to treat everyone with God’s love, reflecting who You are in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
