Strength And Rest
BRD REFLECTIONS:

Psalm 18:32 (NASB): The God who girds me with strength, and makes my way blameless?
Psalm 18:34, 35 (NASB): He trains my hands for battle, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. Thou has also given me the shield of Thy salvation, and Thy right hand upholds me; and Thy gentleness makes me great.
Joshua 21:44 (NASB): And the Lord gave them rest on every side, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; the Lord handed all their enemies over to them.
OBSERVE AND APPLY:
Whether I am in a season of battle or rest, it is God who is my Great Provider. In the battle, He gives me the strength I need to persevere, the training I need to be equipped for my challenges, and divine protection. He provides me with rest from the battle, giving me the assurance that He has secured my victory.
I am reminded of this line in the worship song, ‘Still’: “Find rest my soul in Christ alone. Know His power in quietness and trust”. The rest given to me from God is not the same rest that the world prescribes. His rest enables me to know and trust Him more. The source of my strength is being rested in the Lord – to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). His rest for me is the true rest that my soul needs. As I am still before Him and acknowledge His sovereignty, almighty power and great love for me as His beloved child, I can trust in His provision of strength and protection in any battle I face.
DO:
I will:
- Remember that God is the source of my strength as well as my rest.
- Remember that whether I am in the midst of a battle or in a season of rest, His presence is always with me, and He will provide all that I need.
- Trust in His will for the different seasons and rhythms of my life.
- Seek Him daily to let my soul find rest in the Lord, so that I may know His power that strengthens me.
PRAY:
Lord, You are with me in my battles and in my rest. Help me to honour You and depend on You in all circumstances. Help me to trust in Your divine will for the different seasons and rhythms of my life. In battle or in rest, may I seek you daily as the Lord over my life. Help me to know You as the Sovereign Lord as I learn to be still in Your presence. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
