BRD 2024 Daily Reflection | Saturday, 20th January 2024

Readings:

Joshua 22:1-34 and Psalm 19 (NIV)

The Heaven, The Word, And The Glory Of God

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Joshua 22:1-34 and Psalm 19 (NIV)

(Doris Hui, Companions in Christ Facilitator)

READ:

Psalm 19:1-14 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

  1. The heavens declare the glory of God (Psalm 19:1-6)
  • King David looked to the heavens – not the spiritual heaven where God is enthroned, but the heavens of the blue sky and the night sky – and he clearly saw the glory of God declared.
  • The heavens above will never cease to declare and proclaim His majesty and glory. Like an unbroken chain, their message is delivered day after day and night after night.
  • The glory of God in the visible heavens is for all to see, and communicated to all mankind, no matter what their language is. It is a message that has gone out to all the earth.

2. The great value of God’s word (Psalm 19:7-11)

  • Creation tells me much about God, but His Word tells me much more.
  • There is power in the reading, hearing and studying of God’s Word that goes beyond intellectual benefit. It actually does the work of reviving my soul.
  • The statutes of the LORD are right, making the heart rejoice: God’s Word and the commands contained within are right – morally right, practically right, and universally right. They are right because they reveal a God who is holy, true, and always right.
  • King David insisted that the value of God’s Word – His written revelation to man – was more valuable and desirable than gold itself.

APPLY AND DO:

  1. The testimony from the heavens has gone out to all creation. Mankind is without excuse for rejecting the God who has given such clear and beautiful evidence of His power and glory. I am again reminded to slow down, to pause frequently, to intentionally proclaim the glory of God.
  2. If I know the Word of God and the God of the Word, I can rejoice in knowing that eternity in heaven awaits me. My blessed hope rests in my relationship with God who is revealed in His Word.
  3. One of the great rewards of keeping the word of God is peace of mind. I will seek this earnestly for the rest of my life. I will no longer look at things the same way as before, as I recognise and experience the truth that His ways are always better than mine.

PRAY:

God, Your glory fills the heavens and all that You have made bears Your mark. I ask forgiveness for the ways in which I have not taken care of Your creation or have unintentionally disfigured it.  I pray for those who cannot enjoy the warm sun or the cool night. I have taken things for granted. I seek deliverance from the sins in my life, including those secret sins I may not even be aware of. Let them not have dominion over me.  Lord, do an inward cleansing of my heart, as I offer to you this prayer:

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
