My Standing And Role In The Kingdom
BRD REFLECTION 2025
1 Chronicles 26; 27 and Psalm 78:40-72 (NIV)
(Samuel Tan, Pastoral Team Member)
READ:
1 Chronicles 26:1 – 27:34 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Chapter 26 is a record of the temple gatekeepers, treasurers, and some of the military and civil officers, who were appointed to lead the people in Israel. This chapter also includes a list of the heads of the tribes of Israel.
When I read these two chapters at one go, there are just too many unpronounceable names. It must have been a laborious task for the scribe to write the names. The scribe could have just skipped all the names.
Yet, every name and every family was laboriously listed. WHY? Could it be that God is intentionally telling you and I that He is a God who wants to relate to us as individuals. He is a personal God as much as He is God of all His creation.
The other thing I observed was how organised every aspect of corporate worship and national governance was. The other thing to note is that there is no separation between the sacred and the secular. Every aspect of life is holy, set apart unto God.
Everyone in the kingdom has a role to play within the kingdom according to his spiritual gift; but every person is of the same value and of equal standing before God.
APPLY:
- First and foremost, embrace the invitation to have a personal relationship with God.
- Orderliness is a godly virtue—being organised is a good life skill.
- God is involved in every aspect of my life—at work, study, play, family, church and ministry.
- Discover, develop and deploy your talent/skill/spiritual gift to serve God and others regardless of whether it is a ‘minor’ or ‘major’ role.
DO:
- I will try my best to intentionally stay connected to Christ—practise the ‘presence of God’.
- I need to organise myself— keep a schedule and prioritise what needs to be done and when it should be done.
- I will continue to serve God in Wesley Family life Ministry (FLM); provide pastoral care and nurture for FLM staff and Ministry Partners (volunteers); play my role well as husband, father (father-in-law) and grandfather to my family.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love to me and Your grace so free. I’ll lift my voice to praise Your name, again and again. Grant the desire of my heart to practise the Presence of God. Give me the understanding, discernment and wisdom to prioritise what is important and schedule accordingly. Empower me through Your Holy Spirit to serve You and the people You have and will place in my life that ultimately You and You alone are glorified. This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
