Everything Is Possible For The One Who Believes
LENT 2024 | DAY 22
Mark 9:14-29 (NIV)
(Nijendra Mahendra, Chairperson, Prayer & Praise)
After I came to faith in Christ, the first major work that the Lord did in my life was through my workplace. He started shifting my perspective of how to do business. During these early years of my faith, I struggled tremendously between the ethical practices in the industry and the deep convictions of how counter culturally Jesus wanted me to conduct my business. During this intense period of struggling, my life was full of uncertainty, financial fear, anxiety, doubts, and I fell into a place of deep depression. Thankfully, God provided me with a very supportive prayerful wife and a few brothers who came alongside to journey with me, to help me stay on the narrow path. I felt like the boy in the scripture text and Jesus saying with compassion, ‘Bring the boy to me’. After 2 years, the Lord brought me out of my depression, and I started to run my business God’s way with integrity, honesty, and excellence. My colleagues and work partners in my industry then felt that I was of no more use. But I started to see His Hand of power, providence, and blessings. Like in verse 27, Jesus took me by the hand and lifted me to my feet again, and I could stand up. But I had changed. I now stood not on my own ability, strength, wisdom, or knowledge but on the promises of a God who loves me because He is my Heavenly Father.
Fast forward 20 years and I am still running my business in the construction industry, running it God’s way, and just relying and waiting upon Him. I can certainly testify that He has kept me standing. The tap of providence from heaven continues to flow as I do things His way and rely solely on Him. God has also given me abundant opportunities to witness, testify and share the gospel with others in my industry over the years. The words of Jesus in verse 23, carry so much weight for me now. Everything is possible for the one who believes.
May this season of Lent bring us closer to our Lord in prayer. As we do so, may we also bring others who need healing to meet the Risen Christ!
DISCUSSION POINTERS:
1. Is there something that Jesus wants you to do differently at your workplace?
2. Is there anyone at your workplace going through deep struggles? Could Jesus be asking you to bring them to Him?
3. How can you get involved in praying regularly for your colleagues, clients, and workplace vendors?
