Gratefulness For God’s Assurance
BRD REFLECTION 2025
(Chan Kit Kwong from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 128 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Psalm 128 is in a collection of 15 Psalms referred to as the “Song of Ascents,” traditionally sung by pilgrims as they travelled up to Jerusalem for major celebrations and events. Psalm 127, the Psalm before this one, tells us that without God’s blessings, we labour in vain. Psalm 128 reinforces this idea that when we walk in God’s way and obey His commands, we and our families will be blessed and our labour will not be in vain. We have assurance from God that we will see the promises and blessings that He has given to us.
APPLY:
It is easy to focus on the blessings and promises that God has for us, but our first concern should be our obedience to God.
As we head into the festive season, I want to reflect on whether I have walked in obedience to His commands and His calling for me. What does the fear of the Lord mean to me? Have I given time to be still and listen to God? What temptations have I given in to? Have I acted with integrity in my workplace? Have I treated my family, neighbours and people in my community well? Have I reached out to people that the Lord has called me to?
I am grateful for the promises that God has fulfilled in my life but equally I am reminded that there are areas where I have fallen short of God’s standards. My physical body might be full but my spiritual body has been starved of the living waters that only the Word of God can provide.
DO:
I will set aside time and condition my heart and mind to receive God’s Word during services and small group meetings and be intentional in drawing from the source of living water so that I can be a blessing to my family and community.
PRAY:
Dear Father, I am grateful for the blessings You have provided in my life and I am reminded that You have blessed me so that I can be a blessing to others. Open my eyes to the needs of others and condition my heart so that I will act on what You have shown me. Help me clear my mind of distractions so that I can focus on receiving Your Word for me during services and small group meetings. And lastly Lord, I am thankful to be Your child and for all the blessings You so faithfully provide, Amen.
