Entrusted With God’s Mission
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Acts 6:1-15 and Psalm 8:1-9 (NIV)
(Serene Chia, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
I read Acts 6:1-15 and Psalm 8:1-9. The verses that spoke to me were:
Psalm 8:4 “what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
Psalm 8:6 “You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet:”
Acts 6:3 “Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom.”
Acts 6:6 “They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid hands on them.”
OBSERVE:
God has entrusted us with the privilege and responsibility of stewarding His creation. Psalm 8 reminds us that He has placed everything under our care, a testament to His trust and love. Similarly, Acts 6 shows us the importance of appointing capable and spiritually mature individuals to carry out God’s work. The seven men chosen for food distribution weren’t selected randomly; they were known for their wisdom and maturity in faith, demonstrating that even seemingly ordinary tasks in ministry are not to be taken lightly.
APPLY:
Reflecting on these passages, I am struck by the importance of preparation and readiness in serving God. Building up individuals for God’s work requires intentionality. When a need arises, will there be people ready and equipped to step forward? It challenges me to consider if I am preparing myself and others to take up responsibilities with spiritual maturity and wisdom. Just as the apostles prayed and laid hands on the seven men to bless and commission them, we must also commit everything we do to God, trusting Him with the outcomes.
DO:
I will remind myself to:
- Invest time in mentoring others, helping them grow spiritually.
- Embrace humility by seeking God’s guidance in every task.
- Cultivate a heart of gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting me with the privilege of serving in Your Kingdom. Help me to grow in understanding and a deeper relationship with You, and guide me in preparing others to do the same. Teach me to approach every responsibility with humility, prayer, and dependence on You. May I be a faithful steward of all You have placed under my care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
