BRD REFLECTION 2026

2 Corinthians 2 and Psalm 31:19-24 (NIV)

(Eddy Chan from Pastoral Team)

READ:

Psalm 31:19-24 (NIV)

The passage that spoke to me was Psalm 31:22 which read, “In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the Lord!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.”

OBSERVE:

I noticed David’s honesty in revealing how he felt about God in that situation he was experiencing. He must have felt so frightened and in anguish concluded that he had been cut off from God. Yet we read how God met him in those moments of need and came through for him.

APPLY:

These passages remind me that God’s love for me remains steadfast despite the many times I have failed Him in my faith. This is especially needed for those times when there seems to be no answers, and I feel “besieged” by the issue at hand. It’s so easy for me to conclude that God is not present or that He has abandoned me in my time of need. Even as David calls out to his readers to keep trusting in our God whose goodness knows no bounds, I am reminded to return to worship and prayer whenever I feel boxed up in my situation. It is in those times, as I behold Him, that I get a glimpse of the wonders of His unfailing love (v. 21).

DO:

Turn my pain, my problems and my complaints to a time of praise. I must not allow anxiety to overtake me. Instead, I will follow David’s example not to allow fear and doubt to reign in my life. Like David, I will bless the Lord, declaring that God is good and will always work for the good of those who would hope in Him.

Even as David declares in v. 19, “how great is your goodness you have stored up for those who fear you.”, may I be reminded that God is ever present in my times of trouble. I have only to stay rooted and hope in the Lord who will be by my side every step of the way, for He is good and is good always.

PRAY:

Gracious Father,

How abundant is Your goodness. When we feel surrounded or discouraged, remind us that You are our refuge and that Your steadfast love never fails.

When fear tells us we are cut off, assure us that You hear every cry. Hide us in the cover of Your presence and renew our strength.

Compel us to come to that place daily where we behold Your beauty in worship. Teach us also to love You more deeply, to be strong in You, and to wait with courage, trusting that Your goodness is at work even now.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
