– Prone To Forget
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Numbers 20, 21 and Psalm 107:1-16 (NIV)
(Adriel Gwee, Core Team, SGM)
READ:
Numbers 20:2-9 and Numbers 21:4-9 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The people of Israel were in the wilderness and had no water . They started to complain and question God why He brought them out of Egypt to die when life in Egypt was better. Moses and Aaron sought God and God told them that He would provide water out of a rock.
Later on when the people were further along in their journey, they got impatient and complained again about the lack of food and water. This time God caused serpents to attack them but provided a way for them to be delivered when they cried out to Him.
These two episodes occurred after the Lord had provided food and water for the Israelites previously in Exodus 16 and 17.
APPLY:
Like the Israelites, I am prone to forget God’s provision and goodness in my life. When circumstances become challenging, or when things do not happen as I hoped, I may start to question God’s goodness and plan. During such times, instead of focusing on my circumstances, I need to remember to focus on God and His steadfast love (Ps 107) and allow Him to change my perspective.
DO:
I will take time to reflect regularly so that I can see where God has been working in my life. I will also use that time to cultivate the habit of focusing on God and not be fixated on my circumstances.
PRAY:
Father Lord, thank you for steadfast love. Thank you for all the times you have provided for and looked after me. Help me to keep my eyes on you and not on the obstacles in front of me or my circumstances. Grant me Lord the faith to walk in step with you as you lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
