“To The Very End”
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Job 11 & 12 and Psalm 119: 105–112 (NIV)
(Irwin Seet, Chairperson, Worship and Music)
READ:
For this devotion, I have focused on the verse Psalm 119:112: “My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end”.
OBSERVE:
I find this verse very challenging as it forces me to examine the depths of my devotion and the direction of my heart. The verse appears to set a very lofty ideal, a standard set that is impossibly high. I feel that life, with its constant distractions and temptations will make fulfilling this verse extremely difficult. But the more I ponder on this verse, the more I sense that the verse is not about perfection but about intentionality. It is about making a conscious choice to align my heart with God’s word, to prioritize His statutes above all else. Even if I stumble and fall, I know that God will recognize my efforts and my faithfulness.
APPLY:
This phrase “to the very end” signifies a lifelong commitment to keep God’s decrees. I know of Christians who start strong by being on fire for God but end weak as their faith falters as they get older. I pray that I will have the resilience and persistence to keep God’s decrees to the very end and have Him say to me, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
DO:
I will make regular time for studying God’s Word.
I will develop a consistent prayer life to deepen my relationship with God.
I will rely on the Holy Spirit to provide the power to persevere on all my life.
I will seek God’s guidance in all my daily decisions.
PRAY:
Lord Jesus, I pray that You will strengthen my resolve to obey Your decrees and live a life that honours You. I pray You will grant me wisdom and discernment to understand Your word more deeply and to apply it to my daily life especially in the specific areas of work, relationships, finance and personal growth. Help me find joy and satisfaction in obeying Your laws, and may Your Word be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
