Who Do I Fear?

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Luke 12 and Psalm 25 (NIV)

(Chan Chuu Ling from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Luke 12 and Psalm 25 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In Luke 12, Jesus was speaking to His disciples and the crowd gathered around Him. He reminded the disciples to fear God (v4-5), to trust and be obedient to God instead of fearing people (v4,11) or fearing that they did not have enough (v22-34). They were also told to be ready for the return of the Son of Man (v35-48). Jesus warned the crowd against greed and desiring material possessions (v13-21), and to have spiritual discernment (v54-59).

Psalm 25 highlights that God will direct and bless those who fear Him (v12-14).

APPLY:

Sometimes I hesitate or feel fearful to say or do certain things, even when I know it is right, for example, to speak about God in a workplace setting. I am reminded that I should fear God, not people and their judgement because He is ultimately in control.

I also don’t need to fear not having enough because God will provide. Therefore, I should not get caught up in the rat race and lose sight of my mission to live and share my testimony, knowing that there is an urgency to do so in these end times.

In summary, God is all-powerful; God protects and provides so I just need to care about what He cares about, work for Him and do what He wants me to do.

DO:

I will:

  • Pray for strength to do what is right, even when it is difficult.
  • Recognise the urgency in witnessing and practise the words to say so I am ready when I need to share my faith with others.
  • Pray for pre-believers around me that they may come to know God.

PRAY:

Father, You are God Almighty, You are God who protects and provides. Thank You that You are reliable and trustworthy, and that anyone who hopes in You will not be put to shame. Lord, please help me to fear only You and persevere in obedience as You show me Your ways and teach me Your paths. I also pray for those around me, my family and friends who still do not know You – open their eyes and soften their hearts so that they may see Your hand in their lives and Your love towards them; may they come to know You as their personal Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
