A Throne Established In Love
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Isaiah 15 and 16 and Psalms 117 (NIV)
(Terence Tan from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
My initial sense of the passages in Isaiah 15-16 seemed to be only about a prophecy against Moab.
OBSERVE:
Moab, despite its wealth, was eventually ruined by its pride. A once prosperous nation suffered natural calamities and despite praying to its gods – found no answer nor respite.
Amidst the dismal outlook painted for Moab, I found a ray of hope. In Isaiah 16:5, I am told that a throne will be established in love, in faithfulness a man will sit on it, who will come from the House of David. We are further informed that this King will seek justice in judging and speed up the cause of righteousness.
APPLY:
When I read the news today, I am inclined to feel that the world has become more chaotic, there are obstructions towards justice, there seems to be more wars, and hatred seems to be promoted. It feels like we are cursed like the Moabites. Yet I am reminded that God’s love towards us is great, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever (Ps 117). The prophetic words in Isaiah 16 about this justice- seeking King has come true to me through our Lord Jesus Christ.
DO:
I need to understand the world in context of God’s faithfulness to me. Amidst the chaos, I remind myself that God has already won the victory over sin and death through the resurrection of Christ. His justice will prevail long after the world in its present state has ceased. I am to trust in God, and in God alone. I want to praise the Lord whose faithfulness endures forever and harbour this thought continually in my heart.
PRAY:
Dear Jesus, help me to place my faith in You and You alone. Continually remind me that Your faithfulness never ceases, and great is Your love for me. Help me to learn to praise You at all times. Keep my hope alive and allow me to trust You in all things, Amen.
