Glory Belongs To God

OBSERVE:
There are great contrasts between King Nebuchadnezzar and King David in their responses with regard to their successes and achievements.
Nebuchadnezzar was full of pride and boasted, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” (Daniel 4:30)
As a result, the Lord dealt with Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven away from the palace, ate grass like the ox and was drenched with the dew of heaven for seven years (v33). His sanity was restored and so was his kingdom when he finally acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth, who deserves praise, honour and glory (v36-37).
On the other hand, David was full of humility. He worshipped and praised God for granting him victories over his enemies. He acknowledged that his victories were given by the Lord. He rejoiced in the strength and the victories that the Lord gave him (Psalm 21:1). He trusted in the unfailing love of the Most High (v7). David and his people sang and praised God for His mighty power (v13).
APPLY:
It is important for me to remember that whatever successes and achievements I have gained are there by the grace of the sovereign Lord and not by my own might.
It is dangerous to rob God of His glory, and claim credit and glory for myself as they can be taken away and the consequences can be disastrous.
DO:
I must be humble and not prideful as “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).
I should always check myself and guard my heart against pride and arrogance.
I must be thankful that I have a faithful and loving God who provides for all my needs and grants me the ability to do His will.
PRAY:
Our Father in heaven, the great I Am, thank You for Your goodness and mercies in my life. Help me not to forget that You are the source of all blessings; in turn, please let me be Your channel of blessing to others. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours now and forever. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
