Showing Love In Difficult Decisions
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Corinthians 13 and Psalm 22:1-8 (NIV)
(Joel See, from Missions Committee)
READ:
1 Corinthians 13 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
This passage is a very familiar passage that talks about the virtue and importance of love. I would like highlight two points that stood out to me:
- Verse 3 reminds us that without love, even the most sacrificial acts amount to nothing. Love must be our motivation.
- Verse 8 declares that “love never fails.”
APPLY:
As I navigate life whether in my workplace or ministry, I sometimes find myself in positions of authority and leadership. In these roles, I sometimes face situations where hard decisions must be made, decisions that will inevitably affect people around me and may even upset or disappoint them. In these challenging moments, how can I demonstrate genuine love to those who are impacted by my decisions?
Even when there are organizational policies, regulations, or constraints that require me to make difficult decisions, I can always find meaningful ways to execute those decisions with grace, compassion, and love. The manner in which I communicate, the empathy I show, and the care I take in implementation can make all the difference.
I should remember that love never fails. As long as I show love and care in the same way that God has shown His perfect love and grace to me through His Son, Jesus Christ, I can trust that my actions will bear good fruit, even in difficult circumstances.
DO:
I will take time today to pause and reflect before making any decision that may affect others, asking myself whether my actions show love to those affected by the decision. I will commit to intentionally showing love to someone who has been difficult to me .
PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love to us, through the gift of Your only Son, Jesus Christ. Teach me how to love others as You love me. Help me examine my heart and always act in love. Fill me with Your Spirit so I may learn to manage and show love even in difficult situations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
