God Our Deliverer

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Acts 25 and Psalm 37 (NIV)

(Ian Chng from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 37 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 37 is a comforting and reassuring psalm to God’s people who are facing injustice, false accusations and attacks from enemies.

It assures God’s people who are afflicted by evildoers of God’s deliverance. We are to trust in the Lord’s faithfulness and follow His commands and guidance.

What does God require of us in times of trial? In the first eight verses we are told not to fret or be envious of evildoers, to trust in the Lord and do good, take delight in the Lord, commit our ways to Him, be still before God and wait patiently for Him to act, refrain from anger and turn from wrath.

The Lord promises to deliver us from the wicked and save us because we take refuge in Him, for God is our stronghold in times of trouble (V39-40).

As for the wicked, calamities and destruction will come upon them for their power will be broken by the Almighty (V17).

APPLY:

Psalm 37 is very special to me as it comforted and helped me through a very challenging period in my life with my older siblings after the passing of my mother.  As I committed my way to the Lord and trusted in Him, the Lord spoke to me through V6 that He would make my righteous reward shine like the dawn, and my vindication like the noonday sun.  This came to pass.

This psalm gives the assurance that if I do the right things in the eyes of God, my opponents cannot prevail. I can take refuge in the Lord as He is a just and faithful God.

DO:

  • Have a personal relationship with God through prayer and study His Word in order to hear His voice.
  • Know God more through His Word which will equip me for the journey of life, and live out the Word of God.
  • Always recall and remember the goodness of God in my life.

PRAY:

Dear Lord, thank You for Your  unchanging Word from ages past. Your word is hope and life that will help me cope in times of trials. May I continue to fix my eyes on You, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith.  In You I have hope and joy.  In Jesus’ name, I give thanks and praise. Amen.
