BRD REFLECTIONS:

Daniel 3 and Psalm 20 (NIV)

(Ian Chng, SGM, Zone Leader)

READ:

Daniel 3:25 (NIV)

King Nebuchadnezzar said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

OBSERVE:

The story of Daniel’s three friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego being thrown into the fiery furnace because of their refusal to bow down to the image of gold set up by King Nebuchadnezzar is a story of unwavering faith and trust in the God of Heaven, and God’s deliverance. They survived unharmed with the presence of God in the form of a fourth person walking with them in the fiery furnace as noted by King Nebuchadnezzar.

Before they were thrown into the furnace, they answered the king that the God they served was able to deliver them from the blazing furnace, but even if God did not deliver them, they would not worship the gods of the king nor bow down to the image of gold (V17-18).  This was a bold statement of faith and trust in the Lord.

APPLY:

Life is full of challenges and I have experienced God’s reassuring promises of deliverance on several occasions.

In early March this year, I had to go for a major medical procedure.  I was very stressed and upset when the doctor told me the news.  In my distress I heard a voice telling me “Haven’t I done it for you before?”  This reminded me of past medical episodes where the Lord came through for me and delivered me.  I broke down and cried.  The Lord saw me through the medical procedure and provided a lot of help along the way from the community of faith in Wesley and beyond.  God is faithful indeed.

DO:

I must reflect and remember the goodness of God in the face of life’s challenges and be grateful for His daily mercies and grace.

I will hold fast to the Word of God as it is the living Word that provides direction for my life.

PRAY:

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. May I always remember that Your presence is ever with me whether I am passing through the waters or walking through the fire. You are my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  In Jesus’ most precious name, I pray. Amen.
