What Is My Attitude And Posture When I Face Trials?

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Acts 24:1-27 and Psalm 36:1-12 (NIV)

(Tan Hai Chuang from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Acts 24:1-27 and Psalm 36:1-12 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In Acts 24, during Paul’s trial before Felix in Caesarea, we have: :

  • The Jewish accusers,
  • Felix the governor,
  • Paul the disciple.

From observing their actions, I learned a few important lessons.

APPLY:

What is my attitude and posture when I face trials in life?

  • Am I like the Jewish accusers, who, having no fear of God, did not reject what was wrong, but instead acted deceitfully and wickedly, seeking to advance their own gains?
  • Am I like Felix the governor, hesitant and wavering, wanting to please men instead of God?
  • Or am I like Paul, steadfast and assured in his relationship with God, speaks the truth and does what is right? In the face of adversity, can I remain upright, confident and bold?

Recently, I fell from some rocks in NZ, injuring my knee badly. I underwent surgery and faced a lengthy recovery. Although a setback, it has given me time to rest, reflect and be still in God.

DO:

  1. During difficult times, I need to continue to trust in God, and take refuge in the shadow of His wings (Psalm 36:7). God is faithful and just (v5-6); He will preserve me (v6). I can pray for Him to  continue His  love and righteousness for me (v10). He will not let the foot of the proud come against me, or the hand of the wicked drive me away (v11).
  2. In the midst of  trials, God’s love is priceless (v7).  He is always faithful. When I abide in God, I have the fountain of life and the true light in me.

PRAY:

Father God, I am so thankful for all the blessings You have given me, and all the saints and angels You  have sent my way.

Even as I navigate the many trials and difficulties in life, teach me to be faithful and steadfast, and to trust and obey You. Give me strength and wisdom to do and say what is right, and to act justly. Help me not to count the cost I may have to pay, but grant me Your peace and love, to persevere and push on. Amen.
