To Your Name Be The Glory

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 13 and Psalm 115 (NIV)

(Goh Khean Teik from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Isaiah 13:1 and Psalm 115:1-8 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 115:1 declares “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness”. The psalm goes on to describe the idols of the nations which were made of silver and gold by human hands; they have mouths, eyes, ears, noses, hands and feet but are unable to speak, see, hear, smell, feel or walk. The psalmist contrasts these to the Lord God in heaven, whom the Israelites trust as their help and shield, who remembers and blesses them. The psalm ends by extolling the Lord. Praise the Lord.

Isaiah 13 is a prophecy of warning against Babylon.

APPLY:

As I am writing this, the church sermon series on Revelation is coming to an end. From the series, we were taught that Babylon represents spiritual autonomy, injustice, sexual immorality and idolatry. These are  attempts to be independent from God and to glorify self. This is a direct rebellion against God who lovingly created us and through Jesus Christ’s  sacrifice on the cross  redeemed those who believe.

DO:

I will endeavour to live a life that glorifies God by turning to Him daily through the study of His word and by listening to the Holy Spirit’s counsel and guidance. I will continue to meet with communities of faith to ward off temptations and the allure of this world whilst seeking opportunities to humbly serve and do good through His power and grace.

PRAY:

Thank You Jesus for saving me. I trust that You will continue to be with me through every trial. I pray that You will show me how I can glorify Your name and to boast  only in the Lord, my God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
