Proverbs 3 and Psalm 103 (NIV)

(Jason Jong from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Proverbs 3 and Psalm 103 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

As I read Proverbs 3, I feel like I’m being gently led by a loving parent who just wants what’s best for me. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (v.5) is a verse I’ve heard so many times, but it hits me differently when life feels uncertain or when I’m trying to control everything.

This chapter reminds me that God sees the full picture, and when I lean on Him, He makes the path clear, not always easy, but straight.

God disciplines those He loves (v.11–12). This is not punishment; it’s love. God’s correction is His way of shaping my heart and character to be more like Him.

The writer described wisdom as — “more precious than rubies” (v.15). It’s not about being smart, but about living with God’s perspective, making choices that are life-giving and right in His sight .

APPLY:

The preacher in proverbs is encouraging me to :

  1. Let go of outcomes I can’t control and choose to trust that God sees the bigger picture.
  2. Choose to be kind and generous even when it feels inconvenient, because honouring God includes how I treat others, how I give my time and resources.
  3. Welcome correction not as rejection, but as God lovingly steering me back when I drift out of alignment.

DO:

I want to:

  1. Begin each day with a short prayer: “God, I trust You today and commit this day to you. Let me learn to let go of the need to control, especially the things I don’t understand.”
  2. Pause before major decisions and ask, “Am I leaning on God’s wisdom or just my own logic?”
  3. Practice generosity in small ways—whether with my time, resources, or encouragement. I want to be kind, generous and upright – even when it costs!
  4. Embrace growth moments, even the uncomfortable ones, knowing that God disciplines those He loves.

PRAY:

Dear God,

Sometimes life gets overwhelming, and I find myself trying to figure everything out on my own. But today, I want to pause and say—I trust You. Help me not to lean on what I see or understand, but to believe that You’re guiding me, even when the path isn’t clear.

Teach me to hold on to Your truth, to live with kindness and integrity in everything I do. I want my life to reflect who You are, not just in what I say, but in how I treat people and make decisions.

Help me remember that all I have comes from You. Be it my time, resources, or abilities—I want to honor You with everything I have. And when You correct me, remind me that it’s because You love me and You’re shaping me into who You want me to be.

Grant me a heart that listens, a mind that stays open, and the peace of knowing that Your wisdom is worth more than anything else this world offers. Keep me safe, steady, and close to You.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
