Celebration Of True Victory
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and Psalm 21:1-7 (NIV)
(Ng Bee Kuan, Associate Lay leader)
READ:
Psalm 21:1-7 (NIV)
Psalm 20 (from yesterday’s reading) was a prayer of the people of Israel for King David as he prepared for battle. In today’s reading in Psalm 21, David gave thanks to God for the victory given.
OBSERVE:
After the prayers of the people, God granted the desires of David’s heart. Beyond the victory celebration and the honour and recognition he received, David turned his attention to the source of his victory. David rejoiced in the Lord’s strength (v1) and not his own. He was made glad because of God’s presence (v6), not just because of his success and David trusted in the unfailing love of the Most High (v7).
David’s humility and dependence on God led him to acknowledge that victory was God-given, not by his own strength. God’s presence was sufficient for him to enjoy unending blessings. In adversity, David continued to trust in the Lord and not be shaken by the chariots and horses of the enemies. His faith was grounded in the unfailing love of the Lord Most High.
APPLY:
Only when I am in close communion with God will I know what His will is. God will grant me the desires of my heart when my will is aligned with His. Answered prayers bring great joy and satisfaction but when God doesn’t answer, I will still trust in the Lord because of His unfailing love for me.
DO:
Keep my discipline of word, prayer and worship so that my communion with God is never broken. Remember and recognise that the source of my strength and the fruit of my labour come from above because of the unfailing love of the Most High.
PRAY:
Dear God Almighty, King and Ruler of heaven and earth. Thank You for Your unfailing love. Teach me to respond each day with gratitude, praise and surrender.
“Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24).
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
