BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 43 and Psalm 123 (NIV)

(Gerhardine Foo, Pastoral Team Member)

READ:

Isaiah 43:1-7 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In this chapter, God gives assurance to the people of Israel suffering in exile in Babylon. He first assures them of their identity as people created by Him, and as people who have been redeemed by Him (v1-2).

His next assurance is that when (not if!) they go through hard times, He will be with them. His people will not be overwhelmed when they pass through the rivers, and the flames will not consume them when they go through the fire (v2-3).

He does all this because He loves His people, and they are precious in His eyes (v4). In fact, He loves them so much that He even says He is willing to give up people and other nations in exchange for their lives (v3-4).

The other reason why He does this is to showcase His glory (v7) through His chosen people.

APPLY:

As a child of God, I am reminded of my identity in Christ and that God is both my creator and redeemer. Trials in life are inevitable, but I am thankful for God’s assurance that He will be with me throughout. Going through hard times will not be easy at all, but His promise is that I will be able to make it through because He is with me.

I am most moved by the fact that God’s gentle promises for me are motivated by the simple fact that He loves me and considers me – an undeserving sinner – as  someone precious in  His eyes. More than being willing to give up other nations in exchange for Israel, so great is God’s love for me that He even gave up His one and only Son in exchange for my life.

DO:

With the assurance of my identity in Christ, the promises that God will be with me through the trials in life, and His unconditional abounding love for me, I can do nothing but give glory to Him! I will live a life that is reflective of that, bearing witness to His glory in my every breath and every step.

PRAY:

I thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your faithfulness, kindness and mercy. I find comfort and solace that I am never alone with You, and in Your love I will never be disappointed. May Your love enfold me and give me the strength to weather even the toughest storm that will come. Amen.
