Look To God For All Things Good!
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Ezekiel 45, 46 and Psalm 16 (NIV)

READ:
Psalm 16 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The Psalmist declares his confidence in God as his refuge (v1), emphasising that apart from God he has nothing good in life (v2).
He then declares that those who follow God are His delight (v3), while those who rebel against God wilfully choose to multiply their sorrows (v4); after all, all good comes from God.
The Psalmist declares that God is his portion, cup, lot, boundary line, and heritage (v5-6); these are the gifts that God graciously pours out upon him.
Beyond physical blessings, the Psalmist blesses God who counsels and instructs him (v7). The word “instructs” bears the meaning of discipline and admonishment, reflecting the Psalmist’s appreciation not only for the positive blessings but also for correction—even if it is painful. Both counsel and correction help him walk in a manner that pleases God. Because he is orientated Godward, the Psalmist is assured of his own stability—stability founded upon God’s own goodness (v8).
Finally, he shares how in totality, he finds security and joy since God will not abandon him to death and destruction (v9-10), but gives him life, joy, and delight forever (v11).
APPLY:
I am particularly drawn to verses 7-11 which remind me to lean on God in every aspect of my life. God is the source of all wise counsel and admonishment, and I should not reject Him but bless the times when God corrects and guides me, even if it seems painful. Rather than rebel against Him, I am called to trust in His goodness.
As I live established in His ways, I can then share in the Psalmist’s confidence that God alone is the source of my eternal security, life, joy, and delight.
DO:
Remember God’s character and His great faithfulness! God does not abandon me to live life on my own terms, but constantly leads me in the way of righteousness. And as I see His hand in my life, let me not harden my heart, but seek to please my Master and my Lord. And as I seek to live a faithful life, let me not forget who He is and what He means to me.
PRAY:
Everlasting Father, You are my strength and refuge. Everything good comes from You. In my weakness, I often forget Your goodness. Help me to constantly set my mind towards You and follow You more closely, for it is only in Your presence that I can find true joy and security. Amen.
