Fear Him, Seek Him And Trust Him

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 8; Isaiah 9:1-7 and Psalm 110 (NIV)

(Koh Choon Chye, from Mandarin Ministry)

READ:

Isaiah 8 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Isaiah 8 delivers a prophetic message that combines both judgment and hope. Through Isaiah, God warns Judah of the coming Assyrian invasion, a consequence of rejecting the gentle waters of Shiloah and delighting in the alliance with Rezin and the son of Remaliah. Yet, even in the midst of devastation, the name Immanuel—God with us—offers assurance of God’s abiding presence among His people. In verse 10, this promise is reaffirmed: though nations may conspire against God’s people, their plans will not succeed. God also instructs Isaiah not to join in the people’s conspiracies or fears, but instead to regard the Lord as holy, to fear Him above all, and to find refuge in Him as a sanctuary. Finally, verses 19–22 warn that those who reject God’s Word and instead seek guidance from mediums or spiritists will stumble into distress, darkness, and despair.

APPLY:

This chapter reminds me twice that God is with us even amid judgment. It reassures me of His immense love and patience for His people, and His desire that we fear Him, seek Him, and trust Him. He is my sanctuary when I place my trust in Him—but He can also become a stumbling block if I choose to rely on my own strength or on worldly alternatives.

In today’s world, answers are only a fingertip away, and I often find myself guilty of searching online for solutions before turning to God in prayer. But this passage challenges me to ask: Do I trust the internet more, or do I trust God more? In moments of struggle, I need to seek the gentle waters of God’s quiet provision, rather than the quick fixes the world offers.

DO:

I will:

  1. Learn to seek God first—whether in trivial matters or great trials—I can begin with something as small as a breath prayer.
  2. Put aside my ego, entrust myself to God and yield to His leading.
  3. Cultivate a healthy fear of the Lord, recognizing His holiness and authority in every aspect of life.

PRAY:

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that You are with me, even in times of judgment and uncertainty. Teach me to fear You above all else, to seek You first, and to trust in Your quiet provision. Forgive me when I turn to quick answers and worldly alternatives instead of coming before You in prayer. Be my sanctuary and keep me anchored in Your Word and presence. In Jesus name, Amen.
