Give Thanks To The Lord, For He Is Good
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Thessalonians 1 and Psalm 107:1-9 (NIV)
(Loh Chin Siew from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
These verses stood out to me as I read today’s readings:
Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
1 Thessalonians 1:11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.
OBSERVE:
Psalm 107:1-9 speaks of people in distress and trouble, how God rescues them, that He is good and His love endures forever.
In 1 Thessalonians 1, Paul encourages the believers and offers thanksgiving and praise to God. Believers were being persecuted and Paul pointed out that they could and should grow in their endurance and faithfulness through the hardships they were suffering. He assures them of God’s promised justice and constantly prays for them.
APPLY:
Part of the lyrics of the song “Give thanks to the Lord” goes this way:
Forever, God is faithful,
forever, God is strong.
Forever, God is with us,
forever, forever.
I know in my heart that God loves me and has saved me. He is faithful and strong, and I can only thank and praise Him for all He has done for me. This is easy in the “good times”, when relationships and work are going well. However, when experiencing trouble and difficult circumstances, it is easier to complain and to ask God for help, while forgetting to thank and praise Him. It is especially more so during such times that I should look upward and forward, instead of inward. When I am lost, hungry, thirsty and exhausted, I can look to Jesus as the way, the bread, the living water, and the giver of rest.
DO:
I want to praise and thank God, seek Him, find rest in Him, and trust in His perfect will and timing. I also want to cultivate a spirit of prayer, to find peace and joy in all my tasks.
PRAY:
Dear Father Lord, thank You for reminding me that You are a faithful God. You are faithful even when I have been unfaithful. Teach me to trust in and look to You in both the good and not-so-good times. Help me to grow more and more Christ-like each day. Grant me the rest that only You can give. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
