A Cleansed Heart And A Cry For Justice

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 6 and Psalm 109:1-20 (NIV)

(Ruth Tan from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Isaiah 6:5-8 and Psalm 109 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Confronted with God’s glory, Isaiah becomes deeply aware of his sinfulness. In mercy, a seraph touches his lips with a burning coal, cleansing and forgiving him. When God asks: “Whom shall I send?”, Isaiah responds willingly: “Here am I, send me!”

In Psalm 109, David pleaded with God not to stay silent. Surrounded by false accusations and the attacks of the wicked, he poured out his heart and asked God to act justly. His words were raw and honest, showing that God was receptive to his pain and emotions.

Both passages show me that God is holy and just. He cleanses His people so they can serve Him, and He vindicates those who trust Him when they are wronged.

APPLY:

Have I allowed God to cleanse my heart so I can serve Him freely? I am reminded to go before the Lord with humility and repentance daily. I begin and end my day seeking His presence and waiting on the Lord to cleanse me of my sinful thoughts and desires. I like Isaiah’s response, “Here am I, send me!” I pray to be willing to serve the Lord faithfully according to His will.

Do I bring my pain and sense of injustice to God, or do I hold on to bitterness? I used to turn to God with anger for the injustice, plotted ways to get my revenge, never forgave them, told Him to punish those people and I wanted to see them suffer! But I have learnt to surrender to the Lord and not take revenge on my own. I need to trust God as the righteous Judge and Almighty. He sees everything and acts in perfect judgement.

DO:

Psalm 139:23–24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart… lead me in the way everlasting.” I will reflect, confess and ask the Lord for cleansing and renewal of my heart.

Isaiah 6:8b “Here am I, send me!” I pray to be sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit’s nudging, to look for ways to serve Him daily, even in small ways in the community.

Romans 12:19b “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. I will release all anger and pain to God, trusting Him for peace and practise forgiveness.

PRAY:

Father God, You are holy. Purify my heart, my thoughts and my words, so that I can be a vessel for You. When I face injustice or hurt, help me bring my pain to You instead of holding on to bitterness. I trust You as the righteous Judge who sees and knows everything.

Today, I offer myself to You and say, “Here I am, send me!” Lead me to walk in Your holiness, speak Your truth with love, and reflect Your justice and mercy wherever I go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
