Live It!
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Deuteronomy 11 and Psalm 119:113-144 (NIV)
(Felix Yeo, Director of Administry)
READ:
As I read Deuteronomy 11 & Psalm 119:113-144, the verses that caught my attention were from Deuteronomy 11: 18, 19:
“Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise”.
OBSERVE:
When I read Deuteronomy, I was reminded of my first Sunday School teacher. I was about five or six years old. She was strict and stern and always had a ruler with her! I dreaded memorizing verses. She would start her class by making each of us recite the verse we were supposed to memorize the week before. I remember Sunday mornings on the way to Church, always trying so hard to have a particular verse memorised. This was made especially difficult because it was using the King James Version. Many of the verses were imprinted in my memory, and sadly, for many years, they remained just that: memorized verses. But isn’t this where it all begins? By listening to them being spoken and recited often, I could experience and understand the faithful beauty, truth, and righteousness of His Word in my life’s journey, where it now resides in my heart and my soul.
APPLY:
I must remember that whenever the Holy Spirit brings a particular Scripture verse, story or testimony to my mind, one that He has written on my heart and planted in my soul, it is because He wants me to speak it. I must treasure the experiences He has let me come through and not be afraid or ashamed to share this with another. I must trust that in the sharing, He too will write His Word into the heart and soul of that person.
DO:
I will seek to understand His Word so that I might live. I will seek wisdom so I can apply His Word. I will keep His Word in my heart and soul so that it is lived daily, moment by moment.
PRAY:
Dear Father, thank You for giving us Your Word. It is the Word of Life, words that we should live by. Help us not to just keep them in our minds but also in our hearts and souls; not just in our thoughts but in our actions too. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
