Luke 19:28–44 (NIV)

READ:

Luke 19:28–44 (NIV)

Jesus was sent down to bring peace and salvation. Instead of riding on a horse, He came to Jerusalem as King on a donkey. From His birth in a humble manger to His triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, Jesus came as a humble, servant King who came to bring peace.

However, since the religious leaders had a different expectation altogether of what the Messiah would be like, they continued to reject Him (v39). Even with many of Jesus’ miracles and teachings, their hearts were hardened and clouded by their own pride and presumption, which prevented them from being open and humble to receive His peace (v42). They could not recognise that every part of Jesus’ journey had been foretold by many prophets (v44).

There are times when God rebukes me gently when I judge others who intentionally hurt me and others. This passage reminds me how amazing Jesus’ love for us is.  He is merciful and He is compassionate. He wept when He knew that people who rejected Him were heading for destruction.  He continued to pray for them, warn them, and call them to repentance. He is truly our Prince of Peace.

As His follower, He calls me to bring peace and to show love even if I face rejection.

Lord, thank You for coming to save us when we were yet sinners. Thank You for Your unconditional love for each one of us. Forgive me for the many times I fail to love others. Forgive me when my heart is cold. Forgive me for times I feel superior to others.

I pray that You will let me see others through Your eyes, with compassion and with love. Grant me a humble spirit to obey wherever You call me to bring Your peace and love to others, regardless of the situation. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

[ Reflection Questions ]

  1. Where is God sending you to bring peace and show love?
  2. Has your heart turned cold and hardened in following God’s call to serve others when you face rejection?
  3. How can you keep yourself from failing to recognise God’s work just because He doesn’t show up in the way you expect Him to?
