The Goodness Of God
BRD REFLECTIONS
Genesis 32:1-21, Psalm 27 (NIV)
(Shirley Koo, Chairperson of Wesley Glowing Years Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 27 (KJV)
OBSERVE:
v1: In the opening verse, David acknowledges the Lord is his strength and attributes his help and deliverance as being from the Lord Himself. Amidst the storms of life, he could still praise God. It’s an assurance of God’s peace, strength and sovereignty in his life.
v4: David longs for face-to-face intimacy with God “to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.”
v7-12: David prays for mercy and deliverance from whatever harm his enemies might inflict upon him.
v 11: David prays for God to “Teach me thy way,” revealing he has a teachable heart with full confidence in God’s wisdom and faithfulness.
v13-14: Twice, David reminds himself to “wait on the Lord.“ He needs stillness and patience to hear from the Lord.
APPLY:
I believe no pain and suffering comes our way without God’s permission and everything that happens to His children is Father-filtered.
Life was challenging for me as a single mum with three very young children to bring up. But, when I picked up my Bible and began reading His Word, it gradually became my favourite book and God’s Word came alive. It was like a mirror during those dark days.
One challenging night, I simply broke down and went on my knees in prayer. It was my first heart-to-heart conversation with the Lord. God’s Word and His promises were never so real. That day, they brought comfort and healing to my mind and soul. In forgiving, a heavy load was lifted, with peace and joy filling my heart. Since that day, I have moved on and have confident trust that He holds all my tomorrows. My battles were no longer mine but His. I was not afraid to return to church to worship Him and my children settled comfortably in Sunday School. On hindsight, He used my circumstances to draw me to know and appreciate Him.
My affliction gave me a ministry. And today, my children have found their calling too.
DO:
Through good times and bad, God gives our lives meaning and purpose. The comfort and blessings I have received has enabled me to minister to others with the same comfort and understanding extended to me.
Like David, having experienced the depths of God’s love and goodness, I have a God-given song in the night.
It’s my prayer that my children and grandchildren will always walk in the fear of the Lord and make a difference in His world.
PRAY:
Dear Abba Father, thank you for staying real and true in my life and reaching out to me in my darkest hours.
Thank you for David’s Psalms. Thank you for Your assurances and hope every step of the way.
Thank you for holding my life and my children’s lives in the palm of Your loving hands. You are truly our Jehovah Rapha.
Today, what we have, we owe them all to You. Grant us the strength to live authentic lives that others may be drawn to You and Your Name be glorified.
Bless you, Father.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
